Since 1998, CFI Academy has operated with a singular mission: training professional flight instructors.
Today, we are proud to announce that the FAA has officially granted CFI Academy Examining Authority for our Part 141 CFI Initial course.
This approval reflects decades of instructional discipline, regulatory compliance, and standardization.
It is a significant milestone – not only for our institution, but for the future instructors who train here.
Pilots considering instructor certification can review our guide on how to become a flight instructor.
What Examining Authority Means
Under FAA Part 141, Examining Authority allows an approved school to conduct end-of-course practical tests in-house for its authorized courses.
For CFI Academy, this means:
End-of-Course (EOC) CFI Initial practical tests may now be conducted internally
Reduced dependency on external DPE scheduling availability
Continuity between training and evaluation
Structured oversight within our FAA-approved system
Examining Authority is granted only after sustained FAA review and demonstrated compliance with Part 141 standards.
This structure allows the training organization to maintain consistent evaluation standards and align the evaluation process closely with the curriculum used during training.
If you are unfamiliar with how Examining Authority works under Part 141, you can read our detailed explanation here.
It is rare nationwide.
Why Examining Authority Is Rare
FAA examining authority is granted only to training organizations that demonstrate consistent training quality, strong oversight, and the ability to maintain standardized evaluation procedures. Because of the regulatory requirements and FAA oversight involved, relatively few flight schools receive this authorization.
Examining authority remains rare among flight schools, which we discuss in why most flight schools do not have FAA examining authority.
Why This Matters
Examining Authority is not a convenience feature.
It is a reflection of institutional maturity.
The FAA does not grant this privilege lightly. It is reserved for schools that demonstrate:
Proven training systems
Consistent instructional quality
Regulatory discipline
Effective internal evaluation processes
For over two decades, CFI Academy has focused exclusively on instructor development. While most flight schools added CFI programs later, our organization was built around instructor training from day one.
This approval formalizes what our graduates and industry partners have known for years.
We previously wrote about how Examining Authority effects international students.
Standards Over Optics
Our philosophy has always been clear:
Training standards must exceed minimums.
Stage checks exceed end-of-course requirements.
Integrity outweighs pass-rate marketing.
Instructor development is deeper than test preparation.
Examining Authority strengthens, not softens, those standards.
What This Means for Applicants
For serious CFI candidates, this milestone provides:
A structured FAA Part 141 pathway
Reduced scheduling uncertainty at course completion
Direct continuity between instructor training and evaluation
Integration into a standardized instructor development pipeline
A Milestone Since 1998
This approval represents more than administrative authority.
It represents long-term trust.
Since 1998, CFI Academy has operated with a singular mission: training professional flight instructors. This milestone reinforces that mission and positions our graduates for long-term success.
We look forward to continuing that work at an even higher level.
CFI Academy remains intentionally selective. Our goal has never been to train the largest number of instructors, but to develop instructors who will represent the profession with competence, discipline, and integrity.
Yes. CFI Academy has been granted FAA Part 141 Examining Authority for its CFI Initial course.
It allows the End-of-Course CFI Initial practical test to be conducted internally under the school’s FAA-approved Part 141 system, reducing reliance on external DPE scheduling and maintaining continuity between training and evaluation.
Examining Authority currently applies to the FAA-approved Part 141 CFI Initial course as authorized under our Air Agency Certificate and Letter of Authorization.
